Condolence: A LOVING TRIBUTE TO MR. PYE…
Our loss is heaven's gain!

Sweet Janie, I’m so sorry for your loss and am praying for you, all of the family and others who loved Mr. Pye. My heart was heavy and saddened when I found out that Mr. Pye had passed away. However, I do rejoice that he is now in the presence of the Lord… no longer suffering or limited by an earthly body… but is whole and complete as only one’s arrival in heaven permits!

While those of us who loved Mr. Pye may be thinking or saying, “Now he’s gone, or there he goes…” may we joyously remember that all of heaven is celebrating his arrival and reveling, “Here he comes!” And then my heart starts to smile again as I think that Mr. Pye has already seen Jesus, the One he has told so many others about and preached about throughout his life for as long as he could.

Although there is so much more I could say here, I'd like to share just a few of my fond memories of Mr. Pye and his impact on my life. May it also bring blessings to you:

Even though Mr. Pye was my beloved teacher and treasured friend, he was so much more than just a teacher who taught a particular subject with caring skill to his students. He was also the one who shared with me (and so many others) the much-needed truth concerning God, His love, and His provision for our salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ.

From a difficult childhood, I grew up feeling unloved, unwanted, and like no one cared. But God used Mr. Pye to share things of God with me that I’d never known before. Mr. Pye had sensed there was trouble in our home and one day he told me he was available if I ever needed to talk to someone.

That same day in the quietness of a classroom in a public school, Mr. Pye told me about God and Jesus. And that Jesus loved me and cared about me enough to die for me. (Before then, I’d never heard that I was loved!) However, that day I went from feeling like a "nobody" to feeling like I was "somebody". While I prayed with Mr. Pye, I confessed that I was a sinner, asked for and received forgiveness of my sin, and proclaimed that I believed in Jesus and what He had done on the cross for all sinners… including me.

In that moment, I became a child of God, a child of The King of all kings, His daughter… a princess! In addition, I had the assurance that God would never leave me, I would never be alone, and one day I would be in heaven for all eternity. Because of Jesus, I was saved from my sin and the penalty of it… and there was no going back to being the same as I was before. I got a new beginning, a clean slate, a “do-over” with past, present, future, and eternal benefits!

God used Mr. Pye mightily as His chosen instrument that day. Though it was a very difficult time in my life, it was also a crucial time. I was set free as God immediately removed all the sin and burdens I’d previously carried for over 17 years.

What I learned from Mr. Pye in the classroom that day was not a part of the official school curriculum. Yet I learned the single most important lesson that life has to offer... God loved me, and Jesus loved me enough to die for me. It was an important lesson of love, hope, forgiveness and eternal security. It literally saved my life and my soul!

Nothing I ever learned in any other classroom compared to what I learned that day, and nothing else has ever altered my life like that day did. It was a lesson that not only prepared me for the future, but for all eternity. It was the greatest lesson of them all!

During all the years since then, I have not forgotten Mr. Pye’s impact on my life and that of my family. Nor have I ceased to be thankful for Mr. Pye’s obedience to God in telling me exactly what I needed to know exactly when I needed to know it. God’s knowledge of our needs, as well as His timing, is always perfect!

Countless times Mr. Pye has also told countless others about Jesus, the wonderful things of God, His love and His provision for salvation and for eternity… and God’s plans for a “happy even after" bad things have happened to us, as well as a “happily ever after” that awaits us in heaven.

I pray that all of us who are true Christ followers will use Mr. Pye’s many examples and share with others the hope that is within us. What Jesus willingly did on the cross for every “whosoever that believes” is God’s plan that none would perish… and that anyone who also comes to Him can receive forgiveness and be assured that they too can be in heaven forever and ever… just like Mr. Pye is right now.

Celebrating Mr. Pye’s life and legacy with loving memories, much appreciation, and heartfelt prayers for his family and loved ones,

Glenda Blanton Smith

Condolence: Don will always hold a special place in my heart as I enjoyed visiting with him many times. He was a man who loved God with all His heart and His Neighbor as well. He loved the Word of God and you could see it on his face. He was also a big Braves fan and we enjoyed talking about that.
Janie did an amazing job taking care of Don for many years. They both have been an inspiration and blessing to me. Pastor Dave Riley
